Your maximum rent in Leiden

The maximum rent is national law, so it works the same in Leiden as anywhere in the Netherlands. Every home gets points for its size, energy label, kitchen, bathroom, outdoor space and WOZ value, and the points set the highest basic rent a landlord may ask.

Renting in Leiden

Students at Leiden University and Leiden University of Applied Sciences often rent rooms and small studios in old buildings in and around the centre. Rooms have their own points system, and every room has a maximum rent.

Moved in less than 6 months ago? If the rent is too high, the lower rent counts from your first day and you can claim the overpaid months back.

Local tip: old buildings, weak energy labels

Historic houses often have poor energy labels, and a poor label costs points, so the maximum rent can be lower than the price suggests.
